Quick and dirty, $off contains offset of match end character +1

my $foo="aaa  b c dddd e f g fghfdg dfhdf aaa dfhdfh dfhdfh ";
my $matched=$foo=~/a{3}.*?(a{3})/;
$off=$+[0];
