First of all, I have to say it seems like you've put a lot of effort
into it. It shows. Great job!
I haven't read it yet and I'll probably have some misplaced pedantic
comments but I'm really happy to see someone put that much effort into
something like this. I'm really impressed.
Regarding PDF vs. Doc vs. Wiki:
- I personally hate Doc. It's not portable no matter what anyone says.
Really, it isn't. Not everyone uses the exact same Word (MS,
OpenOffice), with the exact same page and general preferences. This
alters everything, considerably and indefinitely.
- I like PDF only because we have support on *nix for most functions
on GPL PDF readers (evince, kpdf, gpdf, whatever) - not just Acroread.
I try not to use Acroread.
- PDF to Wiki would be hard to convert, but I believe it is possible.
Moreover, you might want to look into Scribus (http://www.scribus.net)
for a publishing and authoring application. It can do a lot of nifty
things and it's pretty much meant for what you're trying to do.
- Wiki is easier and fun to maintain but a PDF (or.. DOC *shudders*)
is nicer to download and take with you on a laptop (or N95, iPod
Touch, iPhone, Palm) and take with you somewhere and read. I have a
few friends who maximize their reading on the train or bus (preferably
train - of course :)
I think putting it on GFDL is a great idea.
(of course I'm always open to disagreements)
